"Boycott Continental Airlines"
well said mr srinivasan.
i have a few observations to make and share with all friends in the group..
we all live in a heightened and tense atmosphere of terrorism post 9/11 a d 26/11 in us and india,
so security drills have become very strict for the sake of safety of all passengers.
but the incident involving our venerable and lovable former president dr apj abdul kalam suffering such ignominy at the hands of lowly officials of a little known us airline continental airlines is downright deplorable and shameful to use our own civil aviation minister praful patels observations.
security drills and protocols for vvips are clearly written down instructions, and its hard to believe that anyone put in charge of checking is not informed. Continental Airlines must take full responsibility and full share ofr the blame for their goofup in frisking dr kalam, who held the highest office of the land. remember when he was president he was also the supreme commander of all the armed forces -- army, navy, airforce, such people who guard the security of a nation are not security checked.
also, when a former president arrives with his own z security staff armed with a machine gun, his secretary and his military attache dressed in full regal military uniform, does not the continental airlines guy know he is a vip and more often did he not have enough general knowledge to recognise dr kalam such a famous figure.
reflects on the airlines competence in recruiting such people with poor general knowledge and general awareness.
to cut a long story short , the matter is simplly:
1) the highest institution and office in india has been insulted by not adhering to laid down procedures of intternatioal protocol, an indian president is received by no less than the prime minister or even president of anotgher country when he makes official visits. a former president does not lose many of these privileges, there is a protocol attached to former presidents that need to be honoured.
2) the incident shows the utter callousness and arrogance and temerity of an foriegn airlines in not following the law of the land as the incident occured in india where contitental cannot bring its stupid airline regulatios to play even while appreciating their respect and adherence to the highest standards of security drills
3) nothing short of an unconditional apology from the airlines to the indian government and to dr kalam personally regretting the incident and us goverment must order an inquiry into the incident and pull up the airlines under its own laws
4) last but not the least, you must give it to dr kalam that he obliged the airlines in the first place, the father of the indian space programme, the country's top military advisor and strategist as drdo chief and the brain behind the country defensive missile programme, and the former president did not make much of a fuss.
but the community he served has taken up the incident.
5) as a one time protest, all those who read this mail, globally, must boycot continental airlines as a protest
and not take the airline while going abroad. only when the commercial aspect is harmed, people understand the gravity of any incident.

Dear friendsJust now, all the channels are breaking the News and Indian Parliament is debating about the way Continental Airlines, an American Airline Company humiliated Indian Former President Dr Abdul Kalam when he was travelling to US a month back.As per rules governing the Airlines, they need to follow the guidelines given by the Government of that Country. According to Indian protocol rules, Former Presidents and Former Prime Ministers are not frisked. These guidelines apply to all the Airlines permitted to operate in India. When Dr Abdul Kalam, Former Indian President went to check-in Continental Airlines, they breached the protocol and frisked him along with the common passengers at Delhi Airport. He was also asked to wait at the Aerobridge like any other passengers for being frisked. Dr Abdul Kalam at that time, in his own usual humble way, submitted himself for all the security check, including removing his shoes.Today, the news has come out in all the TV Channels and is being debated in Indian Parliament. The Airline's spokesperson has said that that for their Airline, there is no such VIP treatment. All the political parties in India have taken this very seriously and the Government has issued a Show cause notice to the American Airlines for their behaviour of humiliating former Indian President in Indian soil.IWhat would happen if any Indian Airline Company frisks and humiliates the former US President Bush or Clinton in US Airport. Will Continental Airlines have courage to frisk any former Presidents of US or European countries?Dr Abdul Kalam is a very simple and humble man, highly respected by the entire world. He may not mind such humiliations. But such arrogance of an American Airlines on a highly respected Indian leader, that too in Indian soil itself is a matter to be condemned. There is no history that anywhere 'arrogance' has succeeded. Only humility and humbleness lead to success. Dr Abdul Kalam himself is a classic example.SrinivasanModerator9176650273
