Re: [prpoint] TIME Cover on PM - wake up call

Dear BNK:Thanks for yr concern and suggestion.I want to make a limited point. We should not get angry and slam media for telling that the emperor has no clothes. It is not PM Dr.Singh, who is an underachiever but it is India and its political democracy.Change and achievements have to happen in states under federal leadership. The politics is failing the Indian economy. Are we not currently witnessing this in Karnataka (state tourism department once(2005) had a campaign  under the title 'Kar- nataka).S&P,Fitch and RBI have all publicly expressed their concern that  politics has  become ineffective in  addressing the economic problems.Business leaders (Deepak Parikh and others) wrote several letters to political leaders on this but they have made no impact/
Can this be fixed by PR? Can we have meetigns and conclaves with business and political leaders for focusing attention on this aspect and follow up with PR?
Pl send me yr postal address and I want to send my cover story in a periodical.Title is 'Creatvie Center-States Leadership for India's Turnaround'.

This is truly one of saddest days for India in terms of the Nation's image – globally and internally.

I see this as  nothing short of a war on the Nation's image.

And instead of coming out solutions and immediate steps to be taken not merely to salvage the shattered image, but to suggest ways to rejuvenate the economy, many, including the opposition are bound to jump the gun and join the TIME chorus.

Let us as PR and Communication professionals to something quickly and suggest a ten or 20-point crisp agenda for the Government to come out of the crisis and regain the image of being the fastest developing nation.

I think we owe it to the next generation and as patriotic professionals, let us put to together all our experience and heads together and debate the issue threadbare.

My appeal to the moderator is to compile all suggestions into one comprehensive document and mail it to the Prime Minister.

Let us also involve all our media friends as well.

The nation needs your services. Let's do it!

To begin with, I suggest to Manmohan government to launch:

  • Consultations with the opposition parties asking them for their constructive ideas
  • Activate Congress-UPA think-tank
  • Ask for reports from secretaries of all departments to be compiled by the Cabinet Secretary
  • Suggest to industry forums like CCI, FICCI and ASSOCHAM to come out with their suggestions
  • Have debates at media bodies like the Financial Writers Forum, The Press Club Knowledge Forum.

Requesting all Forum embers to handsomely contribute their ideas and avoid mudslinging.
