Public Relations, according tome, should be a part
every industry that depends on customer support.
Tourism just can not be an exception.
Recently, I had joined one of most talked about 'tour
company' who are in that business for over 2 decades.
Our guide, was an exceptional PR man and took good
care of us - even to minutest details.
To quote an example, at one place (Genting)some one
stepped on my foot-wear making me unable to wear it.
But when posed the problem (as finding a cobler was
not possible} in few minutes, he gave a small tube of
adhesive and even explained how to use it. It did the
trick in few minutes. He refused to accept the tube
back, telling I amy need it again. Now it is part of
my travel kit.
Another person, lost his camera in a coffee shop. The
owners refuse to co-operate. The guide, brought police
help and the camera was retrived.
Even before we booked our tour, when ever we visited,
water,tea/coffee.
welcome face.
Only at one place we were treated badly,by their local
man I have brought to their notice, along with good
things too.
Unfortunately, I have seen, many so called guides,
either ill-informed or not well hehaved, which is BAD
PR, for tourism industry.
Another aspect is very little attention is paid in 2nd
grade hotels to maintenance of toilet bloks.
During my bus journey from Madurai to Mangalore,
whileI found theTamil Nadu bus stands had excellent
facilities, when we entered Karnataka, it was worst.
There was no need to have direction board abou the
toilet block, as the'stink' would guide you.
