Dear Sangeeta:
I can understand your dilemma, but first thing first. I know different
agencies are using different methods to bill a client. However, in
over 20 years of our consultancy, we have at least never promised or
indicated any size or number of clips that we would generate for the
client. The deliverables are always designed to achieve a particular
result whether change of perception or generating brand awareness,
which are clearly delineated at the time of contract and subsequently
more specifically planned out in detail with quarterly reviews. And
terms like upward revision of retainership periodically or in case of
any change of reference of contract are documented in advance.
The need here for the client to understand also is that number of
clips or insertions don't matter if the ultimate communication
objective has not been achieved.
And in so far as performance linkages are concerned, this becomes
apparent when you compare it what you promised as deliverable to the
client with what has actually been accomplished. In case you feel that
you are putting in more resources in the project than you earlier
planned for the client, justify it with tangibles.
Best wishes.
