[prpoint] PR Departments in Public Sector Banks never keep in touch with media

Srini:

I really don't know about the way public sector banks communicate with their customers. But one thing I can tell you from experience is that the PR depts of most of these banks, not all mind you, need to do some thinking on the way they interact with journalists.

I say this as these officials from the banks rarely keep in touch
with the journalists ,correspondents concerned. Instead, they send all
their releases for publication/invites for conferences to the ad
managers/representatives of newspapers. It could be because of the
constant interaction that these officials have with the ad reps of
newspapers who tap them for promotion of their companies.

Nevertheless, it would be helpful if the bank officials interact
directly with the journalists as far as matters relating to news
coverage/publication are concerned. What I am saying is based on the feedback that we in the media get from each other.

In fact, the PSU bank officials appear to be in good company as we
find that some of the corporate managers and related officials of non
banking PSUs too follow the same practice.

Is there a mix up in the responsibilities assigned to the PRs in PSUs?
