With all the frustration and sadness, we announce that the PRCamp-UnConference scheduled at Chennai on Sunday the 14th Dec is called off. We had made a wiki for registration and we could get around 40 registrations. Excepting 7 or 8 (that too the organisers), there was not much response from any PR and Corpcom professionals. We had more registrations from other domain, to know about PR.
The original idea was to provide a free platform for all pr / Corpcom professionals to exchange the views and to improve the skills. The team spent more than 100 professional hours in designing this event and to get sponsors. We had even spoken to some Corporate CEOs to spare their time for sharing their views. We want to make the event 'free of cost' for the participants. We had mailed in this group and outside three times. We had also written individually to the CEOs of various PR Agencies and Corpcom heads requesting them to nominate the professionals. We also individually wrote to professionals.
Very sadly, we did not get even a single acknowledgment, from anybody. Probably, it was 'free', it did not attract the credibility. Few weeks back, I was one of the speakers at Mumbai in a similar event on 'marketing communication' organised by a Multinational Training Company. There were nearly 100 participants paying around Rs.30,000/- per head. Probably, when we give any good thing, free of cost, it does not attract the real value. We become cheaper.
Taking cue from this, I personally felt that instead of spending so much of professional time, in the name of promoting pr and communication skills, for those, who do not even care for the individual mails, we can organise a simiar UnConference Camp on India Vision, so that, large nubmer of young and committed youth can be motivated to build the Nation. We will have a satisfaction of contributing to the Nation. We are working out the revised date for this India Vision Camp, which will be announced soon.
I am sharing this with all the frustration and anguish.
