Re: [prpoint] Social Media needs to be included in the curriculum to avoid being misused

dear dewaker basnet

You have raised an important issue. Ideally, i personally feel, it is
advisable that social media concept is imparted to the students
from10th standard onwards. Presently, most of these children are
using internet, social networking sites, etc. Unfortunately,
Seniors have not shown much interest in learning the technology and
hence, these children do not get adequate support from seniors.
Naturally, these young boys and girls, explore the social media
themselves and learn from their peers. Hence, it does not get
properly regulated.

For want of proper guidance, young children tend to pick up bad side
of social media. There is no point blaming them that they are using
orkut and other social networking sites wrongly.

Though, it would be difficult to include in curriculum at Higher
Secondary level, i suggest that these children can be exposed for
using social media, through various lectures and seminars.

This applies to college level also.

But for time being, social media can be included as a paper atleast
for media and communication students. This will set a good trend.
Already, Symbiosis (SIMC) has introduced one full paper on social
media for 100 marks for their MBA (PR) students. Now, Media Science
Department of Anna University, Chennai has introduced this concept for
Science and Technology Communication course. Dr C V N Reddi some time
back told me that he was trying to introduce this subject in Andhra
Universities.

For other students, it is preferable to expose them to the great
potentiality of social media through lectures and seminars. This
should include the cyber laws also, so that they get the knowledge in
a systematic manner.
