[prpoint] What Can We Do for Better Governance?

Dear Friends:

I had the pleasure of attending Pathbreakers2, a book release function by Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu of Money Life magazine. Pathbreakers2 was released at the hands of Mr G V Ramakrishnan ex-member of The Planning Commission, Ex-chairman of SEBI and ex-chairman of Disinvestment Commission. The function held on Sunday, 15th February 2009 at YASHADA Pune.

Panel discussion on "What Can We Do for Better Governance?" followed the book release function. Various Pathbreakers delighted the audience with their own wit and style on the topic. As a participant to this program, I am sharing my notes to motivate others who can't make at the function and keep them updated about Pune happenings. Views at the panel discussion are reproduced as under.

"Governance, Corporate Governance and Self Transformation are all what is required right now. Over ambitions should be curbed. Political stability is also required and elections should be fare. "Bridging urban and rural divide is the need of the hour. We get better services at the cost of depriving rural populace and this is very unhealthy situation. Rural is Mural, we need to practice it. "Government officials are worried about 3C's of governance viz. CBI, CVC and CAG. Stand up to your point. There are two India within India. One India is at Baliya and other India is at Bombay. Solutions which are helpful at Bombay may be absurd at Baliya. So, situation specific solutions or technology with people at its focus is required. Granularity of transformation and congruence with larger goals is required." ~ A K Khandelwal
