I completely agree to what Mr. Srinivasan points out. Yesterday in one of the sound bytes Mr. Chidambaram stated that its not that we would not be able to give security to the IPL matches but that we would be asking too much from the police, military, paramilitary force to take care of both the events, happening simultaneously. It makes absolute sense because we also need to take into consideration the many unknown faces of the armed forces who work day in and day out to protect us from harm. Let us have some consideration towards them. As far as elections is concerned, this is definitely a defining moment for India as we (especially the youngsters) are slowly moving from cynicism towards active involvement. So that is of prime concern.
With respect to the IPL, even if it does not take place am sure not many would skip breakfast, lunch or dinner to mourn for it, except Sharukh, Preity, Shilpa shetty et al.

The Interview of the spokesperson of the IPL, Mr. Lalit Modi clearly states that they will reschedule the matches so that they do not clash with the election dates.MORE IMPORTANTLY, Why should a sporting event be ADVISED BY POLITICIANS, WHO, FOR THE FIVE YEAR TERM THAT THEY ARE ELECTED FOR, DONT CARE TWO HOOTS FOR THE CITIZENS THAT ELECT THEM.SO WHY SHOULD THE IPL BE SACRIFICIED FOR THE ELECTIONS.If the security of the citizens of the nation is so important then why dont all the politicians give in writing that they would like to give up on the status symbol security covers that they look for all the time, which would relieve a substantial part of the security forces for the job that they have been recruited for, i.e. for protecting the country and its citizens and not the select politicos. This would solve not only the issue of providing security for the IPL but also in the long run help in better law and order governance in the country.Manoj

Subject: [prpoint] Is India Premier League (IPL) greedy to earn money risking the Nation's security?
dear friends
It is a sad event that Srilankan cricketers were targetted by Pak terrorists. When India is going to face the world's biggest democratic exercise, i.e. General Elections during April and May, IPL is not willing to postpone the matches, inspite of the request from the Union Home Minister.
Already, more than 21 lakhs of security forces like police, para military forces are going to be drawn by Election Commission. This is in addition to the security arrangements involving many lakhs of police forces during the Election Campaign, throughout India.
In addition, the Government has the responsibility of maintaining the law and order and securing the borders during this strainful days.
I donot know why IPL is particular about going ahead with the matches. If they plan the matches, then the Governments have to provide more protection to the matches also, deploying heavy security personnel.
In these days when India is facing acute risk of terrorism, a common man does not understand why IPL should be greedy to earn crores and crores of money, putting other billion innocent citizens to risk. Every body knows, that General Elections would be held in April and May. IPL should have planned well in advance, avoiding these two months.
There is a limit for greediness. Our enthusiam to watch the cricket, should not put the entire Nation to risk. Nation's security is supreme than few billionaires earning further billions.
