[prpoint] Re: H1N1 Panic - Role of Communication professionals

Hi everyone,

While the news about the spread of the H1N1 virus is taking the media by storm, it is useful to consider the role of communication professionals in preparing their organizations to deal with the crisis and providing useful information to employees.

There is a podcast interview with Erika Ruiz, a communication professional in Mexico on how they managed the crisis a few months ago:

Here are a few articles from IABC's Communication World Bulletin on the topic of pandemic preparedness and what communicators can do about it. The articles were written at a time when the global spread of the avian flu was in the news, but the principles of communication planning and crisis communication are relevant even today.

In the issue:
- Paul Matalucci explains the different types of pandemic flu and offers points to consider when developing a communication plan for your organization.
- Peter Sandman and Jody Lanard offer ten recommendations that governments should pay attention to while communicating about a possible pandemic flu outbreak.
- Liz Guthridge makes the case for why you should be prepared before a crisis hits.
- Ed Moed offers handy tools for communicators to test their crisis plans.

I hope you find this useful.
