[prpoint] Oct 2 - A day of significance in Indian history - Saluting the great leaders

Lal Bahadur Sastry
Hi friends
Today October 2nd is a great day of significance in the Indian history.
First, it is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation. It is also observed globally as 'Non violence day'. He proved to the world, through 'ahimsa', one can achieve anything. He was spreading the message of love and brotherhood.
Second, today is also the birth day of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, former Prime Minister of India. Though he was in Office for a short time as PM, he impressed the Nation with his simplicity. Only during his tenure, India faced war with Pakistan and he signed 'Thaskent Declaration', a peace agreement between Indian and Pak. He was known for his honesty. At the time of his death, he did not own his car. The car which he had purchased out of loan, was not even paid back fully at the time of his death. He died as a debtor.
Third, today is also the death anniversary of Kamaraj. Kamaraj one of the great freedom fighters in the South, became the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. He suggested what was then known as 'K Plan'. Senior Congress leaders, including himself, left their ministerial powers and stated working for the party. Kamaraj, when he was at the peak, resigned as Chief Minsiter and started working for the party. When Jawaharlal Nehru, died, there was a big confusion as to who would succeed Nehru. Many people preferred Kamaraj as PM. At that time, as Congress President, he brought Lal Bahadur Sastry. When Sastry died, he brought Indira Gandhi as PM. He is also known as 'King Maker'. Kamaraj also lived a simple life. He did not know English and he had studied upto only 3rd standard. He brought lot of education revolution in South. He knew only Tamil and did not know Hindi. Still, he was the 'King Maker' during those crucial times.
Let us all salute the great leaders, who laid Foundation to our Nation
