This is highly unwarranted and a hasty act on the part of TN Government. On many earlier occasions, whenever governments have acted in haste to please someone and curbed the Press, the governments had always lost the face ultimately. I am reminded of the PH Pandian case (Speaker in the MGR Cabinet in the 1980's) when the then government arrested the Editor of Ananda Vikatan who was in his farm-house in Padappai (as if they were chasing a hard-core criminal) and kept him in jail for a few days. After series of well-fough legal battle, the Editor utlimately won the defamation case against the government and the government paid him a compensation for loss of reputation. I think, Ananda Vikatan still carries the laminated blown-up picture of the cheque in its office. I do not know why the government should be soft on one particular industry. (DMK government is also criticies to be soft on terrorists, extremists, criminals) There are certainly many serious crimes to be solved in the country especially in the State. MK at his ripe age should strive to ensure good policing giving the police all the powers they need, instead of telling them to act on his whims and fanices. I suspect it is an attack on Dinamalar daily, for extraneous reasons. V Rajendran Secy, Cyber Society of India --- On Thu, 10/8/09, Prime Point Srinivasan <prpoint@gmail.
