Hi
I am a student
I have been following the thread and interesting points raised by quite a few people on attitude of youngsters, including their all play no work attitude, being one of the generation, I disagree.
First of all this is a generalisation, one youngster with a lackadaisical issue doesnt speak for the entire lot. On the contrary youngsters are more ambitious and experimenting, ofcourse they lack patience, they are in an instant 'Google it' world and refuse to stand & wait, this only increases efficiency, makes processes faster in every organization they join. Results are there to see, organizations are getting flat, sms lingo is the new language, they are adapting newer technologies and changing with the youth.
Secondly, rather than waiting, young are opening new opportunities for themselves, examples such as BPO industry, media, bloggers etc. are just running on such young ambitions. There has never been such a wave of young entrepreneurship in the country as now due to lack of job opportunities in a slowdown, graduates are opting to start something of their own with such great confidence!
Last, there is a basic issue which is of mentorship and guidance. Those established in different organizations need to have an open attitude towards this young force, they need to understand that most of us, with comfortable background support work not because we need a job but because we want to... it doesnt mean that 'pain' needs to be inflicted as part of grooming process but you need to have more open door policy, give a chance and amalgamate experience with young energy.. else we will just be blaming new shoots when we ourselves have sowed its seed
thanks
