Attitude is an individual's character built over the years - at school, home. So pointing fingers solely at a centre for higher learning is not right. Incidentally it will be interesting to compare and contrast the attitude of an IIT graduate and an IIM graduate. Majority of the IIT grads though from an high profile institution are down to earth.
 
With strong theoritical basis and with some practical experience youngsters rom high profile institutions come to work and they may be impatient to listen to the basics all over again. The other way is to give them an assignment and review their preparations rather than teaching them.

Hi friends

There has been a general feeling amongst the public, which I want to share and seek your views.  

In India, we have few high profile institutions  and also second level high profile educational institutions for all types of education like engineering, management, communication, etc. There is always a general feeling that they focus more on academic inputs  to enable the students  to go abroad or earn more money in India. The selection process  for these institutions are very tough and the parents spend lots of money.   There is always a general complaint that  these institutions  do not focus much on developing human skills, soft skills and to care for the society.

I have been dealing with young students and professionals for the past 15 years very closely either for India Vision activities or for PR groups.  Generally I find the students coming from low profile institutions and non-urban centres possess right attitude in learning new things, helping others, etc.

To cite an example, I have seen, some of  the students with academic excellence passing out from  high profile colleges at Chennai, when they join the work place, show a different high-end attitude (bordering around arrogance)  and they may not even help their  juniors who are coming from their own college.  On the other hand, I have seen many of the students from low profile colleges, used to help the new comers and remain humble. 

I may be wrong and  I want to be wrong in my observations.  I have a strong perception that many of the students coming out of the high profile institutions lack good human skills and soft skills, when compared with low profile institutions.   Some times, I am also tempted to think whether these high profile  institutions  focus only to produce academically brilliant and selfish professionals, but not to produce good citizens with right attitude caring for the needs of the Nation.  

One of the well known software companies always recruit persons from low-profile colleges with low-profile background. They used to feel proud to  'make ordinary people into extraordinary people'.    Another MNC automobile company always recruit only diploma holders from polytechnics from the interior places. Both these companies, train the new recruits to their needs and they are highly successful.  I think a new trend is emerging, employers  prefer to pick up only low profile candidates with good attitude, rather than high-profile candidates with bad attitude. 

India's growth is not only dependant on the MNCs and few top companies.  They constitute only less than 10%.  Our youngsters need to be trained more to take care of the needs of the entire nation, not only to few cash rich corporates.  They have  to be trained more in developing good attitude towards the system and the society.

I apologise for sharing these views so bluntly.  As i said earlier, I want to be wrong.  I invite views from both youngsters and elders.
