Hi all
I forward herewith mail received from Mr T Ramachandra Bhat from Mangalore. He is a member of the Board of Directors in Corporation Bank representing the officers and a well known senior Trade Union leader of bank officers at National level. He has sent the mail to me personally. Since his mail reflects the perception of 'consumers of media', I am sharing this with the group for the benefit of all communication professionals and students.

Dear Mr.Srinivasan, I went through the November issue of your ezine, guest edited by Ms Megha Gupta. It has come out very well. The survey she has conducted is revealing: that media is too commercialised, that ethical standards are getting diluted, that youngsters are not able to find mentors. These will have long term impact on the quality of our media. Megha's interview with Mr Narendra has added value to the issue. His reference to the credibility of the media should open the eyes of our media personnel. Sherry's observations while carrying a lot of subtle humour, say what qualities are required in a journalist. I may share an incident from my own experience as a trade union leader. I was invited to address a group of media students some time ago. They had very little idea about the role trade unions play in the society and in an institution. When I pointed out that most media personnel carry only the employers' view without the version of the unions the objectivity expected of an independent media was lost, the young men and women present there appreciated. A lot of questions followed this observation and they thanked me for providing them a new insight into an important limb of the society. Credibility of the media whether print or visual indeed depends on objectivity and fair treatment. Through the views of these promising youngsters like Megha and Sherry you have underlined the standards expected of the media. Keep it up; my good wishes to them too. Regards, Yours, TR Bhat Mangalore |
