Re: [prpoint] Dignity in resignation

Very important.

Resignations, disassociations, terminations, etc should be as graceful as associations, starting a professional relationships.
And, there should always be an exit interview/interaction with the next boss or the top man as available.
The employers must agree to professional movements by team members and employees must understand that it is a small world and professionalism even in departure is called for to uphold dignity and good culture.

However, this is what should be attempted for, but at times, situations may not allow such a clean separation. I have seen cases where someone has resigned or expressed desire, yet in a game of oneupmanship, the employer has issued termination letter. I have seen cases where first the employee has first discontinued working, then sent the resignation letter. Etc. Etc.

Signs of weak personalities, inflated egos, lack of self-confidence, and all that.

Had a 'good experience' myself while disassociating from 'a branded media institute' of Symbiosis group recently after working two terms over seven years (second time brought in by them on request), and taking the institute from nowhere to 3rd ranking media school with 756 total number of students and Rs.18 crores last income with commendable goodwill and placements records in recent times.

But, again, 'dignity of professionalism'. So, NO details.

Thanks and regards

Dignity in resignation

Of late I have come across some cases of PR professionals kicking the jobs with the least sense of responsibility, leave aside the basic courtesy of maintaining communication with their own teams.

We are in the business of communication and our immediate colleagues ought to know about our moves since they look upon to the leaders for guidance.

Then, we also owe it to our clients to inform them of our moves, particularly when we work in agencies or consultancies.

I would not like to take any names here since my aim is not to do mudslinging.

But, my questions to the forum are:

  • Is it right to quit a PR job in a mighty hurry, without even properly handing over the charge?
  • Does it not cause dent to our image if we indulge in such an irresponsible behaviour?

I sincerely invite members to share their opinions.
