RE: [prpoint] Public Affairs - How Indian PR Agencies responded?

Dear Srinivasan,
Thank you for an insight on the behind-the-curtains work to bring out next issue. It is a welcome topic for education/discussion. I am sure there would even be doubts about what Public Affairs is vis-a-vis Public Relations.
Looking forward to it.
Good luck.
Susan

Subject: [prpoint] Public Affairs - How Indian PR Agencies responded?

dear friends

As announced earlier, our October 2010 issue of ezine will focus on "Public Affairs" (PA). Many reputed organisations in developed nations practice PA properly and the profession is well respected.  Involvement of one CEO of a leading PR Agency in India in 2G telecom scam brought down the reputation of PA in this part of the world.  Also because of the wrong practice  of few  well known PR professionals, PA is being negatively perceived here.

In order to bring out the concept of PA in the right perspective, we are devoting the October issue on PA at global level.  We will also bring out exclusive interviews with global leaders in this profession, along with some good case studies.

For this purpose, one month back, we identified few  PR Agencies in India who have declared 'Public Affairs' as part of their service in their websites.  We wrote to the concerned CEOs seeking their views on PA.  As usual, none of them bothered to acknowledge or even to respond.  Probably, they were too busy in preaching  their clients as to how promptly they should communicate!  Only one company was kind enough to respond to us in India.

After the break of news items involving one  CEO of a PR Agency in 2G Spectrum scam, probably, others are afraid to come out openly to defend the practice of PA.  This may be due to the  fear of being investigated by Govt. Agencies.  No doubt, PA is an important profession and such un-responsive attitude of some of the CEOs who are practising PA may lead to suspicion.  If those companies are not transparent, they will be suspected by others, even if they are genuine.  Companies who are not involved in illegal PA practises, need not fear for others.  They should come out openly to create awareness about right practice of PA.

Last night at 9 pm (US time 10 am) , through Shvetha Sridhar, our consulting Editor at US, I sent a mail seeking an interview with the President of Public Affairs Council (PAC), the leading  global body based at US. You will be surprised to hear that we got the response from them in detail in less than  five hours of sending the questions.  That is going to be the lead story for our October issue.

Our Communication professionals, need to learn  to respect  genuine mails from others, before they preach their clients.  Obviously, we are not releasing the names of those CEOs and the companies, for time being.
