Re: [Image_Management] Why PR bodies conspicuously silent about Radiagate?

Dear Srinivasan

It is indeed, I feel, a good and right attempt to specifically drawing the attention of the PR Bodies and PRCAI for what they have to say in the matter of "Radiagate" since they have been silent despite hot storm going on all these days on the subject even sufficiently damaging the image of PR profession.

Dear friends

'Radiagate'  has attracted lot of debates in our group in the past one week.  Many of the members have expressed their shock, dismay, concern over the developments.  Under the mask of PR Agency, Nira Radia is reported to have done many illegal activities, against the interest of the nation and the poor people. to favour few of her clients.

We have also in the earlier discussions shared the concern about the way, Tatas have been brought into controversy.  Today, all the media have carried reports about Ratan Tata approaching Supreme Court to prevent further tapes being released in the public domain, claiming 'privacy'.  An ordinary citizen cannot understand, the concept of 'privacy' in these tapes.   Ratan Tata is being blamed for his hurried attempt to prevent other tapes being shared in public domain through media.  This also has raised  lot of doubts.  It is reported that only 100 tapes have been made public, out of around 5000 tapes.

If these remaining tapes are containing only normal conversations, why anybody should fear?  Media reports say that only because of corporate giants, Nira Radia was lobbying for Raja.   If Ratan Tata or anybody have not talked anything against national interest or public interest, why should they be afraid of tapes being shared  in public domain?  If they want to prove their honesty, they should demand all the tapes to be made in public domain.

Nira Radia's lobbying conversations were made public even one year back in the media.  In spite of the 'tainted' image of Nira Radia,  Tata Group, Reliance, Kotak, Confederation of Indian Industry have all been retaining  her  as their consultants, till date.   Public have raised  many doubts on this and  even demand a complete probe of these companies, including CII, so that they come out clean.

Another important concern is that none of the PR bodies have come out openly, disowning Nira Radia, who has done all illegal lobbying  works under the mask of 'public relations'.  Public Relations Consultants Association of India (PRCAI) is the body of all top PR Agencies in India.  Many of their members have claimed that they are doing Public Affairs too.

It is very surprising that PRCAI has not come out openly against Nira Radia activities or against the PR mask being used for 'illegal lobbying'. Nira Radia's activities have brought down the image of PR profession itself.   If they do not come out openly, supporting values and ethics in the profession, the investigating agencies may likely shift their attention to the other genuine members too.

In the interest of hundreds of genuine professionals in the PR and Corpcom industry, all the PR bodies should come out openly with their support for values and ethics in the profession and distancing form the illegal lobbyists.

I am marking a copy to PRCAI for their views.  If they share their views, we will publish in these groups.
