The real crux is the Indian permissiveness towards corruption and lack of accountability for which me and every citizen of India is equally guilty. remember many of these people are our fathers, uncles and relatives. I remember reading in a book that the first things that happened post India becoming independent is railway workers asking for bribes on railway platforms.
Our abhorence of discipline, our disregard for civic norms, our ability to narrow everything to language, religion and caste (one friend told me even when our people go to universities abroad they form groups - Biharis, tamilians, telugus, malayalees, bengalis; my brother told me there was an attempt to form iyers @microsoft group which was shut down due to criticism from all quarters) etc. are poison that pervades our society and pulls back what otherwise is a great nation.
at the time of independence, Winston Churchill remarked that India will be soon ruled by crooks, unlearned, self-serving politicians and we cannot be ever united which to an extent is true.
aiding this has been the decay of institutions. Recently heard Murthy speak of abolishing civil service and replace it with a more specialized services. Agree since they have become another burden on our country milking crores as salaries and perks in return for nothing and then also aiding and partaking the loot.
the last is something I have spoken about often is serious lack of leadership - good ones in this country of billion plus people.
Think there are a lot of people realizing the need for change and some attempts are being made in many parts of India. it is the quality of those people and initiatives that will determine where we are headed and not the outcome of enquiries and commissions.
Must mention here about greed. In a country where one lakh crore can solve the problem of food for everyone, health for everyone or even education for everyone, for someone to cheat the exchequer of the same in the name of profit making is business wise fine but not fine in a broader sense. someone was talking to me the other day about conscious capitalism or responsible capitalism. Which balances wealth making with a genuine regard for societal welfare and balance.
Time to think in those directions.
My two cents.

| HEY! HAIL MR.A. RAJA, AS THE NEW" BHARAT RATNA" IN CORRUPTION"! Sri Srinivasan's query as how the interference of media/communicators/PR sect can prevent such corruptions is a valid point of discussion. Sri Narendra's Mahabharata instance is indeed fit into in this episode though more and more characters ranging from 'Dravidian' influence to the persons holding excellent and extra super authority than vested in the constitution, are involved. The present corruption supercedes all the earlier ones since Raja 'Saheb' has shown a new way by which the amount has to be calculated only thr' electronic gadgets than writing down with pen. Perhaps the amount involved in the corruption may bring an international fame since in no other country, at all, such huge corruption would have made by a single Minister(ofcourse with the blessings and support of the above mentioned personalities). In any yard stick the present Government has lost the moral ground to tule the country after this most shame ful scam perpetrated playing with the sweat earned moneys of the common man of the country, leave alone the enquiries, Commissions and what not going to come in this regard. Oh! God no political party or no 'veteran' leader or administrator has an exception to corruption. I think it is a "Kaliyug Dharma' to have corruption at the top! By the by the national decorative titles already have lost its charm and why noot the 'Bharat Ratna' be conferred for 'scams' too since doing such scams need tremendous brilliance and net work so beautifully owen with other personalities not seen in the forefront.
