jagannathan's posting is good.
good , security has to be taken seriously.
its hardly taken seriously in india. barring the south,
they are very very strict, north its quite lax.
but there is a protocol issue and there are
international guidelines governing the same.
diplomatic bagage is not opened by
customs authorities anywhere in the world.
diplomats are not frisked in public and subjected
to intensive security surveilance systems.
thats the point everyone is making.
and vvips are exempt from security checks
such as heads of states and former heads of states.
thats where abdul kalam fell in that category.
remember srinivasan carrying a brilliant piece on
this in his corporate e zine.
yes, i agree with juggy bhai, indians have different standards for
different individuals. sight of goras indians generally melt and fawn upon.
but not the same for blacks even if he is a nobel laureate????
cheers

Members might recall how former Indian President Abdul Kalam reacted when had to undergo security check at the US airports. Now we see the rukus created by Indian Ambassador when she was frisked by the security personnel- the typical Indian -Do you know who I am- attitude.Nothing prevents Indian security agencies to do the same thing for the Americans or any other nationalites. But it will not happen here as Indian security personnel maintain different standards for Indians and for the white skinned. It should be remembered one of the master mind terrorist of the Mumbai hotel is an American.By the way credit should be given to Americans for taking security seriously. No terrorist attack took place in that country after the WTC blast. So what if officials are checked?
