Marjorie Anderson, FPRIA, Managing Director, Anderson Knight Pty Ltd., a public relations agency and Dr.Ron Knight, FPRIA Ph.D and former Australian Diplomat to USA, who are also adjunct professors in public relations of University of Canberra recently visited Hyderabad on a mission to study public relations education and public relations practice in India. Earlier, they addressed Global Public Relations Conclave in Mumbai organized by PRCI.
As part of their study, the couple addressed the members of PRSI Hyderabad Chapter, PRCI Hyderabad Chapter, students of Communication and Journalism of Moulana Azad National Urdu University and Rotary Club in Secunderabad. Prof. P.L.Vishweshwara Rao, Head, Dept. of Communication and Journalism, National Urdu University explained the status of journalism and PR Education in India. They also visited Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Public School, Jubilee Hills and SAMWAD Public Relations. At Bhavan's Public School, the poster designed by the students on Land and People of Australia was very much impressive. The experts discussed about public relations education with Dr.P.Prakash, Vice-Chancellor, Open University who informed them that the University propose to launch M.A in Mass Communication and Public Relations. The PR experts from Australia also expressed the desire for online collaboration for exchange of lectures in public relations.
Dr.C.V.Narasimha REddi, Editor, Public Relations Voice who coordinated their programme in Hyderabad in a statement stated that the visit of Australia Experts to Hyderabad has not only enlightened the status of PR practice and PR Education in Australia but also created greater awareness of the importance of public relations discipline at global level.

v Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) as a measure to promote professionalism in public relations adopts two streams in giving accreditation to its members. One stream is that the students who qualify public relations degrees at the University level are given accreditation while the second stream stipulates that the accreditation will be given to the members who qualify in PR examination conducted by the PRIA. Accreditation, they said is the key to professional excellence
v A trend has set in Australia where more women join public relations profession at entry level and that Australia is heading towards feminization of public relations.
v Public relations courses are offered in the Universities at undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D level.
v They commented that successful PR professional is one who is aware of the internal and external environment of the organization to give advice to the management.
Advice to Indian PR Professional Bodies
When asked about the multiplicity of PR professional bodies in India as against one PR professional body in Australia, the Australian PR experts advised the Indian PR professional bodies " work separately and together". They amplified that in the given Indian circumstances the different PR professional bodies could work separately but join together in designing a vision, a mission for the growth of Indian PR profession and that they must make sincere efforts to reach the goals of mission. I hope the PR professional bodies in our country will ponder over the advice given by Australian Experts and come together atleast in designing a mission towards professional excellence in PR
