WHY THIS DUAL DEGREE ?
The fast changing dynamics of Global economy has directly influenced the knowledge and skill requirement of human resources. The older concepts of focused fields of education in a particular subject or a branch of the subject has been replaced largely by inter disciplinary horizons of learning. The Dual Degree Programmes enhance the marketability of the student and also make him more useful on a larger canvas of industry's need. It was also found that PG four semester programmes in allied fields will have several papers common between them. Pondicherry University has, therefore, proposed the dual degree programme in allied subjects wherein the student takes advantage of the choice based credit system (CBCS) and does not necessarily study the 4 semesters for a second degree but completes it in two additional semesters by fulfilling
the requirements of credits taking only those courses for which he/she has not studied. Dual degree programme permits a student to seek admission and complete a second Master's degree without registering for courses already studied. This Program is proposed at Post-Graduate (PG) level under the Choice Based Credit System.
WHAT IS DUAL DEGREE ?
DUAL P.G. DEGREE PROGRAMME
THE FOLLOWING SIX DUAL DEGREE PROGRAMMES WILL BE OFFERED FROM THIS ACADEMIC YEAR. HOWEVER, THESE PROGRAMMES WILL operate only after a student completes one P.G. programme. To be started from 2014-15

M.Sc. Food Science &Technology and M.Sc. Food Science & Nutrition
M.Com. (Business Finance) & MBA (Business Administration)

MBA (Business Administration) & MBA (International Business)
M.Tech. in Green Energy Technology & M.Tech. in Nano Science
An FAQ on Dual Degree :
Should I apply for Dual Degree separately ?
The candidate need not apply for dual degree seperately. They have to
only apply for any of the two degrees for which they are eligible as per the
criteria prescribed under "Admission Requirements" for regular P.G. courses.
How the programme has been
designed ?
The dual degrees are designed in such a way that (a) common courses are
offered in first two semesters and (b) balance of credits in prescribed courses
shall fall in the last two semesters (5 & 6) so that students of second degree can
horizontally tow the 3rd semester along with the students of the main stream.
Should the two degrees be
pursued continuously?
It is mandatory that dual degree should be pursued continuously and
without any break unless the student has failed in some of courses taken in the
third/fourth semester of 1st degree.
What will happen if I discontinue,
after the completion of the first year ?
Students with discontinuation of one academic year or more are not eligible
for admission to dual degree.
Will there be a separate entrance
for the Dual Degree programme ?
There shall be no separate entrance test for dual degree (2nd degree) for
lateral entry. The admission will be based on the CGPA earned in the 1st degree
and shall be in the order of merit, with due reservations.
What will be intake for the
second degree programme ?
The intake to second degree under the dual degree programme shall be
decided by the concerned department depending on the faculties and facilities
available.
What will be selection criteria for
the admission to the second Degree programme ?
The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the 2nd degree shall be
calculated based on the grades earned in the subjects common to both 1st and
2nd degrees and those earned in the prescribed courses of the 2nd degree.
Will there be separate degree certificates issued for the two different degrees?
Separate grade card and degree certificates shall be issued to each of the
degrees covered under the Dual Degree program.
Can I get the first degree awarded, after the completion of the first two years ?
A student is entitled to get his/her first degree in the convocation without
completing the second degree or he/ she can apply for both the degrees at
the end of 6th semester or when he/she completes both the degree courses.
