Dear friends:In a semi feudal society,State honours loose their significance.Padma awards have been politicised.In 1988,BRatna was awarded to MGR posthumously and his name was included an hour before official announcment,mainly to get his wife's support for the Congress in state elections.Why no otehr CM has been given such an honour?Did not late Jyoti Basu deserve this? He brought back W Bengal from the brink of secession,extremism.
As for as award to Sachin,it raises several questions: why not to Leander Paes? or for that matter Vijay Amritraj?or Saina? Normal convention for Padma award was that it should go to people in walks of life where there was no recognition in a particular field.Khelratna/Arjuna award are available for sports people.
As Ashok rightly says, there are very serious issues before the nation suchas growing governacne deficit, increasing inequality,break down of rule of law,corruption.Ordinary people are struggling to live a law abiding life.
