Hi,
Perhaps for the first time television media is looking at one part of a social problem in a sustained manner. Had media remained content with just reporting the ghastly incident, the girl would have become a statistics in the crime records.
Going forward the media should look at pending rape cases where the accused's are noted personalities and why it is pending. Further the demand now be that the amended laws should have retrospective effect and not prospective.
The people who are protesting and braving the baton charge and tear gas shells are not fools. It just shows the pent up feelings of the people of Delhi. There is always a breaking point. It is a sense of outrage and very rarely such outrage is shown by the Indian people.

Subject: [prpoint] Media hype impacting Delhi rape protests?
All the rape accused in the Delhi gang rape have been caught and are cooling their heels in police lock-up. Government is setting up a fast track court. Even the Delhi High Court has intervened. Everybody wants justice to be done fast and the Home Secretary even assured this is a shut case with overwhelming evidence against the culprits for whom the strictest punishment will be sought.
Now, it is amazing to see continued protests with the media also raising chorus: Where is my India and so on…Media continuously showing youngsters screaming for justice and saying nothing is happening on the rapists front which is totally wrong since the accused were produced in the court.
Instead of asking the people to allow the authorities to complete the legal process, why should media telecast screams for instant justice?
My question is not Where is My India – My question is where the self restraint that the media is supposed to have?
Kiran Bedi says the youth wants to be heard! She wants the Home Minister, CM and Governor to come Ramlila to listen to protesters. Will she ensure peaceful demonstration?
Police relaxed ban orders to allow peaceful protests and now some of the crowds trying to break barriers and some more pelting stones.
Further, apart from student unions, even trade unions and political parties are joining the protests.
Thus, the entire process of protests becomes meaningless as it is getting politicized. Sonia Gandhi spoke, Rahul met protesters. Now, what do the agitators want?
Soon, the protest will turn into a law and order issue. Protesters have begun to burn the material brought or Republic Day parade.
Should this kind of politicization and hijacking of student protest be allowed?
On the top of it all, BJP ridiculously holds demonstration at the Emergency Entrance of Safdarjung Hospital, ignoring doctors' please to leave the area free for ambulance movement.
Please recall that Mahatma Gandhi called off his Satyagraha when the freedom struggle turned violent.
I appeal to forum members to share their thoughts and instill a sense of responsibility among all – Sab Ko Sanmati De Bhagwan!
Thanks & Regards
