[prpoint] Re: March 2013 issue of Ezine: New Pope + Ram Setu +Vivekananda+Sanjay Dutt+many more

Srinivisan Sir,

as usual this months presense issue hits bang on and is very informative, article on Sanjay Dutt is also written well.

my thoughts on Sanjay Dutt......

Sanjay Dutt is INNOCENT........... he should be pardoned?

There is a generation of young who know Dutt as Munnabhai – the one who has inspired millions to "Gandhigiri" and they dearly love him. Sanjay Dutt is a superb human being and a fantastic actor, an innocent soul who made a mistake; he is a son of illustrious Nargis Dutt & Sunil Dutt [Congress MP] and hails from a good family. Poor soul has actually suffered for 20 long years; he is now a family man and entered into a new phase in his life. Why should he alone be targeted, just because he is a celebrity, who kept a rifle to protect his family..., well let the bygones be bygones. I appreciate Justice Markandey Katju and all others who are out there voicing their views, collecting sympathies; standing up and demanding clemency for the actor... i love simply them...

On the other side I look at my cousin Tushar Deshmukh, who at an innocent age lost his mother for no fault of her..... and hundred other innocent souls who were blown to pieces – literally, on that bloody Friday of March 12, 1993. Streets of Mumbai were covered in blood, limbs, burnt skin, eyes which were out of their sockets…. It was a mayhem – bodies of the blast victims were just lying on top of each other in the hospital verandahs – you could pick and choose – if you found your dear one without an arm you could pick one to complete him/her………… a sight that one will never ever forget till the end, even the mere thought of the same brings goosebumps………… a scar on the memory that will never erase.

So what – that was then…… "Sanjay Dutt has suffered a lot. I believe that he should not be given such a big punishment. He is a changed man now. I'm going to personally appeal to the governor and ask him to pardon him," Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan said

Let's look at some facts - Sanjay Dutt was in constant touch with Anees Ibrahim, brother of Dawood. Despite of having 3 licensed weapons, Dutt procured an assault rifle. Mr. M N Singh - Joint Commissioner of Police who investigated the case says, "Dutt was the son of MP - who's government was in power - so for self protection one doesn't go to gangsters' but could have called on the government agencies, also in-spite of having 3 licensed guns why did he need an assault rifle and hand grenades".......

The other facts - Dutt was waiting in his Pali Hill residence for the consignment of arms [part of the consignment of weapons and explosives brought to India for the coordinated serial blasts that killed 257 people and injured over 700] to arrive, which came hidden in the frame of a car, he gave the required tools to retrieve the weapons, he later spoke to Anees Ibrahim and confirmed the receipt of consignment [as confessed by Dutt, at the time of police investigation]. Mussa Chauhan, Samir Hingora [owner of Magnum video] delivered the consignment of arms to Dutt's house, Mansoor Ahmed's car was later used to bring the weapons back from Dutt's house and Zaibunissa Kazi who kept the arms hidden in her home - all [Chauhan, Hingora, Ahmed and Kazi] were convicted under TADA, ironically Sanjay Dutt was the only one in this chain to be sentenced under Arms Act by the TADA court and not termed as a terrorist.

Now the question is should Dutt be granted pardon, just because he is a celebrity and rest who were part of the chain [which involved him] be looked down upon and be given harsh punishment? Most important – Granting any remission to Sanjay Dutt would set a bad precedent, the Indian Judiciary system will be mocked, more over we will ridicule all those innocent souls who died and all those who still bear the scars of that bloody day .

I feel Sanjay Dutt is really lucky to have got just 5 years and a tag of an Errorist…….
