Interesting point for discussions.
Google certainly leads us to nook and corners unheard of and difficult to imagine.
While we feel major %ge is of no use ( may be a skillful user can make use of ) as a novice and just a user, its value and support cannot be described as useless.
As professionals we must make the best use of every available professional tools and support

As long as one knows how to separate wheat from the chaff.
Google is a search engine on which search results can be manipulated by using effective SEO, SEM. The source needs to be credible enough.

Good topic. And here's my bit on it.
Google is one of the most popular research tool today. And its use is not restricted to any professional community. Whatever your field be, Google can search the online universe and give you what you want. I've used it to search for the most difficult-to-find stuff to the most weird things, and I've never been disappointed with the results. Some of the so-called confidential information that TV channels claim to have obtained, can be found using Google. The trick is, you should know how to use Google's keyword search mechanism. If you can understand that, you'll be surprised what the Google can give you.
As for TV channels denouncing 'Google journalism', that could be perhaps to safeguard their own expertise in 'investigative journalism'. For a channel that repeatedly claims that only they are able to 'unearth' certain information, admitting to Google journalism will dilute their own expertise. Admitting to Google as a great information source will trivialize them as a investigative channel. So, I'm not surprised if channels hate Google. Some may secretly use it much more frequently than lesser mortals like us, but will never say it openly. That's a strict no-no.
A lot has been said on the importance of doing homework before any reporting on issues and before debates. Actually, I'm happy that most panelists do their homework before appearing on a debate, but can't say that about anchors and reporters. Attribute that to time pressures and field duties, but not being prepared with facts and figures on issues is actually sickening. The result is that panelists come out as much more aware and issue-educated people than the anchors and reporters.
Now, I'm no one to tell journalists on how to conduct their business. But the effect is so stark that even laymen like me can tell the difference.

"I am not a Google journalist," the anchor said loudly. My question is: What is wrong in being a Google journalist?I would also like to ask: why cant we get ourselves prepared with the ready-to-use information (or research!) and do our interviews? Also: Don't many journalists or even PR professionals find Google very useful when they have to do homework?Gone are the days when one had to wade through tones of files and old newspaper clippings for reference material. With keyword search, we get what we want in less than two seconds.Let's debate the pros and cons of Google search facility, for the benefit of those who proclaim that they are not Google journalists.==========================================Thanks & Regards
