Dear BKN,
To answer your question straight – Its ok. I have been searching and exploring on so many topics through Google almost everyday and I am very happy to tell my children to use Google search.
This was certainly not the case 20 years back when I had to physically go from company to company to find basic details. My ideas and beliefs, then, were based only on what I read or heard from people around me. Now, it’s a different world with different expectations and possibilities.
When you have a simple to use tool that provides so much information, sources, perspectives one should use it rather than hold on to his or her point of view. Let’s understand that responsible usage of information only adds in enhancing our awareness and information levels and makes our analysis and decision process much more logical, balanced and holistic.
It would be strange to hear, in this era, of a person, who has access, but hasn’t used Google search for something important or necessary to him or her. Be it on a professional or personal front. The only case may be of someone who doesn’t want to acknowledge it!!!

A top TV news anchor recently protested when a panelist on his programme mentioned that one could get lot of information on Google. “I am not a Google journalist,” the anchor said loudly.
My question is: What is wrong in being a Google journalist?
I would also like to ask: why cant we get ourselves prepared with the ready-to-use information (or research!) and do our interviews?
Also: Don’t many journalists or even PR professionals find Google very useful when they have to do homework?
Gone are the days when one had to wade through tones of files and old newspaper clippings for reference material. With keyword search, we get what we want in less than two seconds.
Let’s debate the pros and cons of Google search facility, for the benefit of those who proclaim that they are not Google journalists.
