Loved your analysis Prof. Naqvi. Amusing as it may seem but what frightens me is to see people buying in on NaMo's crap.
Almost all of Modi's stunts end up with the argument that he has had to suffer great and supposedly "unjust" persecution post-Gujarat riots. And that the so called trial by media is nothing but a well orchestrated Congress campaign to malign NaMo and the BJP.
I hope that the truth is not lost and that we can still remain sane enough to know that a campaign shouldn't be faught on hypocritical plots and conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, such plots and theories is what sells.

I liked this debate. Most probably, the BJP/Modi through their sources put the story out unofficially, the Goebbels line, put it out, test it, see, how people react. If it works, you are great. If it boomerangs, just deny it etc. Funny thing was something else. I get five newspapers at my house. The TOI group was funny. TOI's Abheek Burman wrote that strong anti-Modi piece. The same day, Madhu Kishwar, a woman for whom I have had great respect till now.. who also did good work for delhi's rickshaw pullers with her Manushi NGO, supported Modi's Rambo act solidly in Economic Times. Then the next day, Rajnath Singh says, Modi never said it. Kishwar just lost face...
But one lesson here. PR / Media guys should be careful of the Modi spin. There would be more of it till 2014. Before his last election in Gujarat, Modi wrote this letter to PM Manmohan Singh, then leaked it, saying India should not hand over Sir Creek to Pakistan, which PM termed 'mischievous'. Modi likes this... to put a spin to things. Thats the only way he survives. But it is my hunch, he is not going to have much sway over large swathes of the rural populace. So, I wonder what next the BJP/NaMo brigade will do? In 2013/2014, there isn't any temple/mosque breaking frenzy... and India has moved on in quite a few ways in the last twenty years.
