A 15-member delegation of Indian journalists associated with the Mumbai Press Club will arrive on a three-day visit to Karachi on November 23 (Saturday).

This would be third such visit of the Mumbai Press Club members, comprising both the print and electronic media, to the city under an exchange programme with the Karachi Press Club (KPC).

The event manager, KPC treasurer Mohammed Rizwan Bhatti, said the KPC had arranged a ghazal night at its lawn on November 23 followed by a sumptuous dinner in honour of the visiting journalists.

On the next day, a seminar titled "Pakistan-India Relations and the Role of Media" would be held with three representatives belonging to the media industry from each country as the speakers.

Later, Pak-India CEO Forum has been organised, where the Indian journalists would get to interact with the representatives of a cross-section of the Pakistani society, including media persons, peace activists, trade unions leaders and businessmen. The Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoori group) has arranged hi-tea for the visitors at Port Grand, from where they will proceed to a dinner arranged by the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce Industry.

On the third day of their visit, the Mumbai Press Club members would tour the State Bank of Pakistan and would meet its governor. They would also visit the National Museum of Pakistan. A lunch would be hosted by the Sindh Assembly speaker later. In the evening, the visitors would tour the media houses, including Jang and Dawn groups, and would end their tour on a dinner at Ocean Mall.

On November 26, the Indian journalists would fly to the capital city, where they would meet leaders of mainstream political parties and will also call on Prime Minister's Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.

The meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has yet to be confirmed. The visitors would then travel to Lahore and attend a function organised by the Lahore Press Club. A meeting with the Punjab chief minister is also on the agenda.

The visiting delegation would return to Karachi on November 29 to catch a flight to their homeland on November 30.

The upcoming visit is an important part of efforts to develop people-to-people contact between the neighbouring countries, better understanding between media organisations and confidence building measures between the two countries.

The first-ever exchange of visits between Pakistani and Indian journalists was organised by the Karachi and Mumbai press clubs in November 2011 as a media initiative to improve bilateral relations. The Karachi-based members had visited Mumbai and Pune in 2012 with the then KPC president Tahir Hasan Khan leading the delegation.
