So this is how the corporate world sees it -- be it TIMES NOW or Arnab.

Dinner party (social gathering hosted by someone) where my wife, kids and I were invited, along with senior person from Essar, 123-years-old Kirloskar Brothers top management, Vodafone senior person, Tata Communications senior person and an Indian living in Tanzania and working for African Barrick Gold Exploration.

Me being the only media person (ex journalist and practicing communications / PR professional) amongst that august gathering.

Somehow the topic of Arnab Goswami came up.

* The news hour is too loud

* Arnab is too blunt

* He doesn't allow his panelists to speak

* He loves his own voice

* He questions, and he himself answers

* He is judgemental

* He makes fun of the panelists

* He just shouts others out

* He is a mad bull

* There are rumours that his team is not happy with him.  blah, blah, blah, blah.

Not many like him, not many agree with his debate style, not many approve the channel's approach.

But they all appreciated that at least the Indian media (and by that extension TIMES NOW) is alive and kicking. "Had it not been for channels like TIMES NOW and journalists like Arnab, our politicians and bureaucracy would have eaten up everything that we have".

And then, someone said:   "do you realize that all of us have been discussing Arnab and TN for the last 45 minutes. now 'the nation wants to know' why are we discussing him?."

I had my two bits of wisdom dished out as well:

* If you don't like him or the channel, move on.   In today's world, you do have choice. Not just amongst tv channels, but across formats.

* Arnab and TN are like Microsoft:  you complain, grumble and dislike it, but you also end up watching it (and using it in the case of microsoft).

Interesting personality Arnab. We too are discussing him.

Has the News Hour become a Noise Hour?

Many friends tell me they stopped watching it. At home too, the family prefers soaps rather than the noise and shouting.
Friends, pl share your views and make this debate a professionally enriching one.

1. Do you think Times Now News Hour is becoming one-sided?
2. Do you think the anchors make a lot of fuss over even small issues?
3. Do you think the kind of aggressive and imposing approach that the anchors adopts (even in Evening News) is proper?
4. Do you think the right message or conclusion in debates come through in the cacophony?
5. What do you think, as a viewer, the right way to present the news and debates - and do foreign news channels like BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera stand out as shining examples?
6. Any other point that you would like to add

Thanks & Regards
