Cartoon is a very effective communication tool. They powerfully communicate the message with a sense of humour. Recently, when Dr Abdul Kalam was releasing the books containing the 'Mathi' cartoons of Dinamani newspaper, he was sharing his experience as to how his team felt rejuvenated by cartoons, when they were dejected due to the failure of SLV3 in those days. He also advised the media to use lot of cartoons in the newspapers to create awareness.
Taking clue from his talk, we introduced cartoons in our monthly ezine PR-e-Sense from April issue onwards. In the curent issue also, we have included one full page cartoon from Triambak Sharma, Editor of Cartoon Watch. Cartoon Watch is published monthly from Raipur for the past 12 years. This is the only available cartoon magazine in India, after the closure of Shankar's weekly.
R K Lakshmans cartoons are highly popular. Symbiosis Institute at Pune has even kept a statue of the 'common man', RK Lakshmans cartoon character, at their main entrance.
Mr Triambak Sharma has agreed to be the 'Guest Editor' for our October 08 issue of PR-e-Sense on 'Cartoons as Communication tool'. He desires to network with the persons who are interested in cartoons. I request the members who have a passion for drawing cartoons may kindly contact him over e mail. They need not be cartoonists in a media. He wants to develop the art of cartoons amongst the people.
