Re: [prpoint] Beware : HDFC Bank's indifference to Customer Service

Dear Friends,

Its the making of a huge fraud. The siphoning off of even a fraction of a paise per transaction for the all such transactions made by a large bank will accumulate to a huge amount on a daily basis. If someone simply created a component in the software to siphon off the funds to a separate acount that person would be making millions without anyone being the wiser about it.

The issue is much bigger that it seems to be and should be brought up with the RBI and other competent authorities.

Regards

Manoj Panjwani

It is really cheating by the bank that understands that `little drops of water makes a mighty ocean'.

The member has not remitted nor withdrew cash but deposited cheque. It is bounden duty of the bank to credit.

If it is a typo then the branch officials should have corrected the error immediately.

It is really attrocious on the part of the branch manager saying that the matter was not brought to her notice. And even then she had to take her head's permission!!

Then why should the matter be brought to her notice at all!

Though the amount of 8 paise issue as reported in this group is not worth spending much time on, it still evokes my curiosity.  If it were a software issue (only IF) then it is certainly a major problem.  Such small amounts of paisas from various accounts not accounted for at the day-end (resulting in the brank books not getting tallied end of day and  hence) going to a particular account as substantial amount in rupees every day will accumulate over a period of time.  Since the loses are only hundreds of customers every day and all in just paise, no one normally reports or will take it as rounding off issue.  The beneficiary as per the software design gets credits every day accumulated in thousands or lakhs over some time.  Such a computer offence is called Salami Technique in Cyber Security circles.  One of the earliest cases of  Salami Technique was reported in a Delhi Electric Supply Undertaking software in 2001-02 (to be verified) and reported in many other circles subsequently.

Just to share with the goup to ponder....

(Moderator's Note: Though the claim was only 8 paise, in a double entry book keeping practised by Banks, it should not happen. Paricularly after the use of technology, this should not happen. that was why, we circulated this message in the group, so that attention is drawn. We also forwarded the earlier mail to Reserve Bank of India for their information. )

Dear Sir:

Recently HDFC credited 0.08 paisa less than the cheque amount. My cheque amount was 15033.88 and HDFC credited 15033.80/-. When mater was reported, they refused to entertain the complaint.

But, I choose to give HDFC a tough fight and spent 36 rs to date for getting 0.08 paisa back. Although I got 0.08 paisa back, it is funny how this bank operate. Please check some of the explanations.

1) Such a petty issue of 0.08 paisa
2) Complaint docket number: No need
3) Sir, yes it is our mistake...we will do it today. Perhaps...... I made him remember his statement after 10 days.
4) I have reported the matter to branch manager, she will credit 0.08 paisa by evening.
5) Branch manager - says you have never contacted me. I need to take approval from head.
6) Sir: We have credited 0.08 paisa why do you need an apology letter now.

Finally 0.08 paisa is back after 20 days.

And i will follow this issue till the head with heads understand the issue. Please be aware of your paisas, HDFC systems might have this problem. This is satyam about HDFC.
