Hi all
It is one of the serious issues, which we have discussed in this forum earlier too. I have been watching from yesterday, the entire Indian TV Media has been hyping the sensitive issues like Kandhahar and Pokhran II. Few of the old age people, due to their insecurity and attention seeking syndrome, talk something to grab the media attention. Immediately, our TV Media also start hyping the issue, without realizing that they are dealing with the most sensitive National security issues.
Decisions are taken in the Government and also in the Corporates, based on various situations and priority of that particular time. Over a period of time, lot of things would have changed. It might not be sensible to discuss after the lapse of many years, whether that decisions would be right or wrong. They have all gone into the history.
As a former Bank Official, I had taken many decisions for sanctioning loans, based on the papers and situation prevailing at that time. It would be easy to blame me after many years, based on the current situation. We need to look at the honesty and sincerity of those decisions only.
In the same way, Kandhahar or Pokhran decisions were based on the situations prevailing at that time, many years back. Even the present Cong Government cannot share many sensitive issues in the open media, in the overall interest of the Nation, though the decisions were taken during BJP Govt. Such media hype, would put the country in an awkward situation before global audience. The real need of the hour are:
1. The senior retired officials, in their anxiety to seek attention due to their insecurity feeling, should not create controversies, if it is against the interest of the Nation; They should realise, in a democratic system, there is a room for dissent. But when they were part of the Government, they would have carried out the decision of the Government, irrespective of their personal likes or dislikes. The cabinet or Parliament decisions are based on majority only. Such Senior people should keep restraint, when the National interest is involved.
2. Media, particularly Television Media, should not jump for telecast and create a hype by providing publicity for these "attention seeking" senior citizens. Channel completion and ratings are only to National interest.
When the democracy is maturing, Media also should be more matured to sustain the democracy. Once the damage is done, it would take a long time to bring back to original level.

Hi friends
Every media in the country today had the story on Pokhran II in the front page. Former Scientist of DRDO, K. Santhanam calling Phokran test as a fizzle. What he spoke was a highly sensitive issue concerning national security as well as image of the country.
There should be clearly drawn communication guideline for officials holding sensitive offices irrespective of them in service or retired.
I request members in the group share there thoughts on what all ways we can structure communication flow and also interesting incidence which can be learning for young professionals.
Best regards
