(Moderator's Note: The author of this mail Mr Narendra was the Principal Information Officer of PIB and Information Advisor to PM during the Vajpayee regime) Hi friends
Dear Mr Narren:
K.Santhanam (Santy to friends) and Dr Kalam were responsible for detonation of P-II. The scientists like Dr.Chidambaram and Dr Kakodkar were responsible for developing the technology. Dr.Sathanam was also Director of IDSA. Before we jump to conlcusion that national security would be compromised,
Some eminent nuclear scientists are also of the view that physical tests may no longer be necessary and simulated computer tests could replace physical detonation like P-II.In fact 1998 tests was preceded by computer modellling.
National security is no one's private preserve and it needs ot be debated openly by all.If it is solely entrusted to Govt, security is not always safe.
Do you know that America landing man on the moon in 1969 has been questioned by eminent authors in USA?Accordign to them, man did not land on the moon at all.In an open democrary we should not gag opinions in the name of national security.
Did your read the article in the Hindu recently that exposed how senior military commanders ignored field intelligence of Pak build up around Kargil that resulted in Pak intruding into India. There is a view that kargil was could ahve been avoided had the senior milirary leaders not ignored intelligenc reports.Has this article compromized our security? Not many persons are happy with the report of Dr.K.Subhramaniam on Kargil.Henderson Brooks report on 1962 India-China war is yet tobe made public.

Every media in the country today had the story on Pokhran II in the front page. Former Scientist of DRDO, K. Santhanam calling Phokran test as a fizzle. What he spoke was a highly sensitive issue concerning national security as well as image of the country.
There should be clearly drawn communication guideline for officials holding sensitive offices irrespective of them in service or retired.
I request members in the group share there thoughts on what all ways we can structure communication flow and also interesting incidence which can be learning for young professionals.
Best regards
Narren
