Yes what happened was highly deplorable. In a nation where politicians and criminals seek anticipatory bail or hospitalisation to pre-empt arrest, here was an editor of a prominent daily working in his office. Only a simple telephone call was enough whereby this responsible citizen could have visited the police station. An arrest from his office was indeed avoidable. But the government chose the other way.
We need to follow certain conduct when dealing with such cases. Distinction has to be made and everyone cannot be painted with the "criminal" brush and has to be treated with some dignity and respect. I would like to ask where are the so-called human rights activists who spring up whenever the underworld or terrorists are arrested and "ill treated". Arresting a law abiding citizen and a respected media person is equivalent to a human right violatation.
