This incident is indeed condemnable. It shows the arrogance, and ego of a particular `sector' of actors. They want to show-off their power and silence any opinion that goes against their realm of thoughts or wishes and to think that such people talk about countries that use terror against normal mortals is rather a shame.

This issue also brings out the hypocritical functioning of the government. They need these actors support and vice versa and keep praising and giving awards like kalaimamani or DR blah blah blah to each other thinking that they only own the art form. . The saddest part is that the government and actors function like one big family with the public as mute spectators. Power attracts power but the million dollar question is who gives them this power. Who enthrals them to this status? Its we the public.

As a resident of Europe,(not citizen) no where have I come across , such star worship. The common man has so many things to do like enjoying with the family, going out for walks, or cycling and life is so peaceful. The government or actors don't interfere with the
Public's affairs. We dont gape at actors walking on the roads, or watch television for so many hours. But in Chennai there r no other interesting avenues for recreation than CINEMA. That's why it has reached such a position which thinks of itself as indispensible.

Nadigar sangam, by protesting even after an apology from the leading journal only shows the inhumane and dominating nature of the cinema stars and to think that some of them either have or are starting a political party gives me sleepless nights leave alone the journalist Lenin!

 > Yes what happened was highly deplorable. In a nation where politicians and criminals seek anticipatory bail or hospitalisation to pre-empt arrest, here was an editor of a prominent daily working in his office. Only a simple telephone call was enough whereby this responsible citizen could have visited the police station. An arrest from his office was indeed avoidable. But the government chose the other way.
 > We need to follow certain conduct when dealing with such cases. Distinction has to be made and everyone cannot be painted with the "criminal" brush and has to be treated with some dignity and respect. I would like to ask where are the so-called human rights activists who spring up whenever the underworld or terrorists are arrested and "ill treated". Arresting a law abiding citizen and a respected media person is equivalent to a human right violatation.

 > Yesterday, Mr Lenin, a Senior Journalist and News Editor of Dinamalar, one of the leading Tamil dailies was arrested by Tamilnadu Police, as if they were catching a criminal.
 >
 >
 > Last week, one of the film actress Bhuvaneshwari was arrested by Tamilnadu Police for the alleged prostitution. The newspaper Dinamalar carried a story, that Bhuvaneshwari, the arrested actress gave a statement to the Police accusing few more film actresses as if they were involved in prostitution. This news report was denied by the Actors Association and they complained to the Police about this.
 >
 >
 > Next day, Dinamalar carried a box item prominently aplogising for the story and mentioning that it was not meant for hurting anybody's feelings. They also apologised if anybody was hurt.
 >
 >
 > In spite of the apology, film industry friendly Tamilnadu Government instructed the Police to arrest the News Editor of Dinamalar. Yesterday, few Police officers entered the Dinamalar office in civil dress and arrested the news eidtor as if they were catching a great criminal. Mr Lenin, the news editor has been remanded to judicial custory and sent to central prison.
 >
 >
 > Today morning, prominent film actors met personally Mr Karunanidhi, Chief Minister and thanked him for arresting the Dinamalar News Editor.
 >
 >
 > Now all the journalists in Chennai have joined together and are protesting this arrest. Probably, it is leading to a war between film industry and journalists. The film industry friendly TN Government is now catch-22 situation
 >
 >
 > I am not able to understand as to why TN Government and the Police were in a hurry to please the film actors by arresting a senior and well known journalist, within a day of memorandum submitted by the film people. There are many number of issues of public interest affecting the common men are not being attended to by the Government and also by the Police.
 >
 >
 > Secondly, why the Government should arrest a news editor, when the paper has sought apology prominently in their edition. If the film industry, wants to get redressal, they can approach the court for damages or complain to Press Council of India.
 >
 >
 > I request members to share their views. Let us together condemn such hasty actions of the Police.
