Re: [prpoint] PR standards

Hi BNK

This is a good debate, you have initiated.  Our PR bodies like PRSI and PRCI have adopted some Code of Ethics in their Conventions.  Personally speaking, they remain more in pager.

I personally feel 'Code' is different from 'Standard'.  'Code' is more about our behaviour.  'Standard' is more about our performance.

You referred about ISO.  ISO 9000 certifications give you standard about your office maintenance, upkeep, compliance of some procedures, etc. They are more internal.   I do not think, they prescribe any standard about our performance to client.

When the Computer Security became a challenge, ISO came out with another series of ceritification standard known as ISO 27000 (we wrote earlier in our ezine also).  Again this standard is only to guide the companies to maintain their security systems.  This is also more internal, like ISO 9000.

Now, I think, you are talking about setting standards for external 'deliverables'.  It is a new way of thinking and I really appreciate you for briging forth such debate.

In that case, we cannot treat the 'code' as 'deliverables'. or ISO certification also as deliverables.  For your information IABC has set a code for their members in the link

For example, if you visit any Public Sector Bank premises, they would have displayed a board, about the standards, they have adopted for issuing DD, transfer of funds, etc.  That 'standards' set goal to the organistion to deliver the service to the clients.

I think BNK means the same thing.  If it is so, it is wonderful.

I will be thankful, some of the Seniors and CEOs in this forum may also join the debate.

Often we encounter queries from prospective clients on the PR Standards that we follow. Considering the fact that hardly any PR company enjoys ISO compliance, and that none of the PR associations have any standards displayed n their web sites the task of answering such questions becomes even more difficult. Can we all PR professionals put together a Charter of Ten standards? I welcome suggestions from across to help put together a charter. To begin with, may I suggest one standard? Pl suggest corrections as you deem fit.
