Re: [prpoint] Dignity in resignation

Dear All,

I have absolutely different kind of experience, since this is my third job.  I was working with one of the Tata group of companies in Jamshedpur and left the company in the year 2003.  The decision was absolutely personal and emotional as well.  I shifted from my birth place (Jamshedpur) to my mother's birth place (Srirangam) - some may feel what a contrast.

In my dream I never thought of leaving a city like Jamshedpur and company like Tinplate Co. of India Ltd (Now Tata Tinplate). When I expressed my desire to leave the company and the reason behind the separation, the MD was really concerned and he personally met me three times before accepting my request.  My HR head was also asked me to reconsider my decision, as I was one of the employee who had received Awards for driving excellence.  It was a very emotional exit and I still have contact with all my old friends in Jamshedpur and I even come to know what's happening in the company.  Great people and great place to live, which I still miss a lot.

Then I joined a small group of hotels and worked for three years. I got another offer and I decided to quit the hotel. I informed the management of the hotel well in advance and requested to relieve me in one month.  I completed all the work and it was a very graceful exit.  Even today, I speak to my MD, ED and GM and they too keep in touch me.

It is very important to be highly professional and ethical in your work to be recognised for long time even if you leave the organisation.

All the best.
