Dear Sir
In PR, i can say that life becomes difficult once you resign. People spread bad words about a person who resigns. There are very few who appreciate and be in touch even after he/she quit. Agencies have very handful of people working for them and its not possible for an employer to let off an executive who is performing well.
I had a personal experience, even after an year of me leaving my agency, my boss called and offered me a job, in fact profile was bigger than the current one. I dont know how many bosses in PR have dont this.
best regards
Narren

Subject: Re: [prpoint] Dignity in resignation
Hello All,
BN Kumar, CEO, Concept PR, has raised a very pertinent issue.
While its decent of him not to raise any names and refrain from mudslinging
as he calls it, I think what he says is 100% true of , particularly of the younger generation.
When you are in PR, the first person to know of any resignation moves , should be the boss or your senior colleague. He/She should know first and he/she should not learn from the market.
Secondly, everybody resigns for personal reaons. what is wrong in sharing it with your superiors or seniors, perhaps they will appreciate and even go out of the way to guide you in in your career moves in the future.
Honestly I dont know what is wrong with the younger generation. Is it their fault or the fault of the parents? That they dont inculcate value systems in them because they dont have the time and they are chasing their jobs to make more and more money for the family and at what cost? Or is it the callous attitude of the youngsters of " I dont care a damn for anyone".
Seniors are not laddders by which the youngsters should climb and then kick it at will once they reach the top. Thats plain bad etiquette or bad manners in simple english.
I have had very bad personal experince of interviewing young 20 something anchors ( of both sexes) for recruitement for a hindi tv news channel ( which I am setting up with some friends of mine) -- they send you 101 messages requesting for appointment and once they get the appointment, behave as if they have descended from the heavens and expected to be appointed the next day. And when you get back to them in a weeks time , they dont bother to answer emails or even have the courtesy to answer phone calls. They conveniently forget they were interviewed by you.
This is most irritating, and absolutely no respect for elders. Common courtesy demands that you intimate people whether your are interested in the job or not, because the market is full of hundreds of people wanting jobs. The deserving candidates can be accomodated.
Hope everyone sees my view point if not agree with what I say. particularly the so called younger whizz kid generation. In our generation we feared and respected our elders.

Dignity in resignation
Of late I have come across some cases of PR professionals kicking the jobs with the least sense of responsibility, leave aside the basic courtesy of maintaining communication with their own teams.
We are in the business of communication and our immediate colleagues ought to know about our moves since they look upon to the leaders for guidance.
Then, we also owe it to our clients to inform them of our moves, particularly when we work in agencies or consultancies.
I would not like to take any names here since my aim is not to do mudslinging.
But, my questions to the forum are:
- Is it right to quit a PR job in a mighty hurry, without even properly handing over the charge?
- Does it not cause dent to our image if we indulge in such an irresponsible behaviour?
I sincerely invite members to share their opinions.
