PR discussions: [prpoint] Re: [ gfpr ] Commonwealth Game => Commonwealth Shame => Commonwealth Pride

Dear friends,

Beginning with sarcasm and criticism by Media followed by praise and appreciation by Government PR as an exercise of crisis management, ultimately the curtains for the 19th Common Wealth Games were raised yesterday.

Rs. 70,000 crores expenditure, 7,000 players from 72 countries under the surveillance of 1.00 lakh security personnel and all that is preceded by the handing over of Queen's baton, though not a wasteful exercise, the cause of conducting these games is unsavory. Queen's baton symbolizes the supremacy of British Govt over the 72 countries it had ruled and named as Common Wealth countries. It still symbolizes our willingness and submissiveness and also the nexus of past with British Raj.

Coming to the facilities at games village, somebody opined "It is, after all, a village and you can not expect more facilities than this"

Let us be always positive.

What a positivity? We have the habit of carrying magnifying glasses or microscopes to look at things both far and near. The magnitude of arrangements that were made and are being made for an event like Common Wealth Games is not on a smaller scale that too when there are torrential rains and Yamuna passing-by Delhi is also in spate .

Yes, any Crisis will give you lot of scope to introspect, an opportunity to learn several lessons. Now that PM himself has descended to oversee the arrangements, the damage already caused by CWC Organizers, Opposition parties and Media will neutralize.

The lesson learnt is that for Olympics, Asiads and Common Wealth Games where the pride of the nation is involved only PM or President shall directly oversee the arrangements.

India needed some crisis always in the past to enter into the next level to get global appreciation. If you look at the past history, when India was facing acute food crisis in 1960s, C Subramanian brought 'Green Revolution' and self sufficiency in food. When India pledged its gold openly in early 1990s, to resolve financial crisis and balance of payment, Narasimha Rao brought in 'Economic reforms' and we improved our financial resources.

When the Election Commission was facing crisis, Seshan showed the powers of Election Commission to set right the irregularities. When crisis deepened about the customer grievances in Banks and Insurance, Ombudsman Schemes were introduced to resolve the disputes quickly. Similarly, RTI Act, Right to Education Act, IT Act, declaration of assets by ministers and judges were all introduced due to one crisis or other.

If you look at our past, every crisis has helped us to go to the next level. That has helped us to get positioned well at global level. India has always been resilient, be it reservation issue, ayodhya issue, communal clashes, natural calamity, etc. India has always emerged much more stronger out of every crisis. We have also learnt to manage the crisis well.

In the same way, Common Wealth Games become Common Wealth Shame due to corruption and mismanagement by Kalmadi and his team. Now that the PM has taken over personally, I am confident that this 'shame' will be converted into a 'pride'.

Every crisis has taught us great lessons. After the CWGs are completed, the Government should initiate legal action and punish those who brought shame to us. Only then, such shameful activities will not recur. Few individuals cannot bring down the pride of billion people.
