Re: [prpoint] Why this glorification campaign of Sanjay Dutt?

yes narendra ji, you are abolsutely right. public memory is short and we tend to forget the ghastly 1993 blasts which was overtaken by 26/11, that people remember only 26/11 and not so much `1993, which was more heinous.
bu the 26/11 was more audacious crime as perpetrtors were seen and destroying.

what i tried to bring in my mail is that there are two faces to Sanjay Dutt,
one reel image, where he endeared himself to everyone through munnabhai and the 2nd his idiotic personal image that rubs off is public image. sheer idiocy to keep terrorist arms in ones house -- no right thinking man would ever do it.
his parents were so dignified -- cant make out whats wrong with this lad?

thats what i wanted to bring out. i agree with srini that celebrities cannot get away because they have cultivated an endearing public image through a reel life character. in india people with clout will get away from the most ghastly crime and those who dont have, and if they are innocent, are incarcerated.

I think these katjus need to think twice before opening their mouths.Considering the position he is holding, it become all the more important for him to show maturity. What 's more he was a Supreme Court judge earlier. Therefore, his comments make one worry.

About Sanjay Dutt.I cannot but agree with Srinivasan. For far too long, the boy has been a problem and got away largely because of his father's influence. Before pleading for his case,I had hoped that all his supporters would have given a thought for the many innocents who died during the Mumbai blasts. They too had families/children,didn't they?.

By the way,if one were to stretch Katju 's logic, the killers and rapists of Nirbhaya too should be given shorter terms /punishment as they too might have families. What's more, they have "already suffered "in terms of the public ire/shame  against them for their irresponsible/reprehensible act..
I won't be surprised if somebody comes out with  similar arguments.

Re the film community.Well ,less said the better. Some of these actors go around driving around without a care for other human beings and yet get away.Recent incidents of pavement dwellers being run over by a few of these "actors" are too fresh in the mind.Mind you ,they have yet to be punished.

The same lot has also been accused of killing wildlife in protected sanctuaries.Yet nothing happened. .They have gone scot free. And these are the people Katjus and clan defends.

hi

Yesterday, Supreme Court  passed the final judgement on 1993 Mumbai blast case.  In this blast, the first ever in India using RDX, 257 people died and more than 700 people got injured.

Sanjay Dutt was first booked under TADA Act for possessing the arms used in this blast.  According to Mr M N Singh, then Mumbai Police Commissioner who investigated  this case, Sunil Dutt used all his political influence to remove TADA charges.  Though he was tried under TADA court, he was punished by  TADA court with  6 years of imprisonment under Arms Act.

Now the Supreme Court has reduced this to 5 years, the minimum under Arms Act and asked him to undergo the imprisonment.  Since he was already in jail for 18 months, he needs to further undergo a jail term of further three and half years.

Since yesterday, the entire media is debating this issue, leaving behind many national and top issues.  Many of the film  celebrities, including Rajnikanth now plead for mercy to free him.  Hon'ble Justice Katju has already submitted an appeal to the Governor of Maharastra seeking pardon. Jaya Bachan and Jaya Pradha say that they would meet the Governor pleading for mercy.  Film producers are lobbying for the release, because they would lose huge investment, if Sanjay Dutt goes to jail.

When an act of terrorism happens, hundreds of people die and many families suffer. Even the nation's economy gets disturbed.  When the punishment is given by the highest judiciary, vested interests talk about 'mercy' and 'human rights'.  If all the celebrities like actors, politicians, ministers and sports persons get punished, these 'katjus' start raising their voice in their favour shamelessly, probably to gain publicity.

These people talk about the suffering of the family of Sanjay Dutt.  Did they think of the trauma undergone by 257 families who lost one or more of their members and other 700 people who got injured heavily.  The reports say that Sanjay Dutt was keeping  the arms used in the blast in his house and also met underworld terrorists who were behind this blast.  Arguing that he was keeping these machine guns, cartridges and hand grenades for his self defence is shameful.  Why he needed bombs for self defence?  He could have engaged a security agency or got the police escort or even obtained the formal license.

Sanjay Dutt should have been charged under TADA Act and should have been given life imprisonment like others for helping the terrorists.  In this same case, other accused people who committed lesser crime have been punished heavily under TADA Act.  Because of his political connections, he escaped with reduced punishment of 5 years, under Arms Act.

If every celebrity involved in the crime  or terrorism is glorified like this by the vested interests, then the judicial system cannot function in this country.

It is highly shameful that these supporters want Sanjay Dutt  to be pardoned  on that ground  that he is having children, mentally suffered, promoted Gandhi philosophies, etc.  The families of the blast victims also have mentally suffererd and their children are continuously suffering.

In the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, one of the accused who supplied battery, is facing death row.  Sanjay Dutt has done greater offense than this person who supplied battery.  If he is not politically connected, the Court would have punished him with life imprisonment.

Sanjay Dutt getting the punishment will send the right signal to all the celebrities that they cannot get away after committing crime or assisting terrorism.
