Re: [prpoint] Media reporting - seeking your views

Good question.

here i want to clarify some important things what will happen after a reporter
from a TV Channel (Popular) will do after any event coverage.

1. His duty was to coverage the complete event/launch programme.
2. After the coverage he will handover the news to the editor who is incharge.
3. The editor will omit the portion which he (the channel) dont want. so their is no need to blame the reprtr.
4. The gift is a matter of nothing for the channel. Moreover the gifts are given by the interests of the organizer.
5. Prominent Channels will never encourage the gifts/money must be given from the event organizer.
6. If the reporter insists to mention the name of the brand/product to the editor of the news-incharge.
The next ? will be How much money or what kind of gift did you get from them.

why the channel not mentioning the name of the product ?

Ther are various reasons...

1. The name of the restaurant/brand or the name of a particular person will not be
encouraged by the channel. If they do so, they think it will be a advertisement of a particular
Brand/Person.

2. At the same time, they dont like to mention the name of the product.
bcoz they think it will be indirectly encouraging the people to use the product.

3.They are very clear that the channel does'nt responsible to promote a brand directly or indirectly in the news.
bcoz some channel policy is like that.

4. In their point of view if u want to mention your brand name simply give an Advt.

5.Compare to Advt the news carry more value among the viewers. So the channels are very careful.
like these kind of news.bcoz, they are not responsible if a brand in  worthy or not.

Suppose, if they mention the brand name (but its not worthy) that people feels.
What will happen.? The channel will lose the trust of the viewers.
It will be a bad name to the channel & also it will affect the TRP.

like these kind of reasons they are avoiding to mention any of the brand name.

Dear friends,

I want to know your expert opinion on an issue.

One of our friends retained a PR company at Chandigarh (also a dear friend of ours) to handle the launch event of his Restaurant. The owner of the restaurant also retained an event manager and booked a TV celebrity for the inaugural show.

As usual, the PR company invited the media for the inaugural event. A reporter from Times of India also attended the event, enjoyed the hospitality, went away with the gift happily and filed the interview of the TV celebrity without even mentioning the name of the restaurant or the owner ("The TV Celebrity was here to inaugurate a restaurant in the City").

My question is : Is it ethical on the part of the TOI reporter to file the interview of the TV celebrity, without giving credit to the restaurant, when :

  • The TV Celebrity was arranged by the Restaurant owner
  • The restaurant owner spent heavily on the fee, food, lodging, travel etc. of the TV Celebrity
  • The interview took place at the restaurant premises

Kindly enlighten me on the issue.

Warm regards.
