Re: [prpoint] Media reporting - seeking your views

Mansi

At the outset, le me tell you that it is highly unethical for the journalist to have filed the interview without mentioning the name of the restaurant. Even the editor who handles the journo has to be blamed, as he should have clarified 'where the interview took place' issue and add it in the interview piece.

Another aspect, as I am able to understand from the issue raised, is the point that the celebrity is also at fault, as it is s/he who has utilised the opportunity to gain personal media coverage.

Let me ask you one thing straight, who decided that a celebrity need to innaugurate a restaurant, is it the PR agency or the restaurant owner. Eitherways, keep one thing in mind, if there is a good story and that too in a place like Chandigarh, the story sells. The 'celebrity' is not required.

Invariably, if you stick to the conventional model of ensuring publicity through the celebrity, always have one who does not talk about themselves.

For eg., some years back I had the opportunity to interview SRK during a watch brand launch, he insisted that we talk more on the brand and not on his films.

Morale of the story: Dont rely on celebrity, if you need to for publicity take one who knows what to talk and not, or face the issue like your friend does...
