Re: [prpoint] Right to Information and Indian Companies

Sir,

Regarding RTI act, I am not sure how for it will have real effect. For instance, in the Sethu Samudiram project, RTI has been initiated to seek information from the Govt regarding the project feasibility with certain technical details. So for, I am given to understand there is no response to this RTI. Nowadays  Consumer product manufacturing cos do not pay much attention to customer feedback. Whether RTI will evoke any positive change is a million dollar question ?

Another point is , if any public raises RTI to know the condition of the roads in this Chennai city and what is the accountability of the Contractors who have laid the roads at exhorbitant cost and why it has not withstood even the slightest rainfall ?whether it will bring any positive change?

RTI can be effectively used if it is taken in the right perspective from the top Govt Offiicial to the down level.

with regards

Dear friends

One of our members Avinesh has suggested a discussion on the RTI. I
hope by now, you might have read the ezine (dec issue) on the subject.

The impact of RTI in the days to come will be more felt by the Private
and Public Sector organisations. Private Sector companies should not
under-estimate the impact of RTI act on them.

As suggested by Avinesh, this RTI act brings in more transparency and
can be taken as a good PR opportunity also.

At the same time, companies providing wrong information or appearing
to be suppressing information may also face trouble from the
stakeholders. (Please read the case study of Poompuhar Shipping
Corporation that was published in our latest ezine)

I invite members to share their views and experiences
