Jet Boss came under pressure from Civil Aviation Minister who wants the Govt to give a bail out to his friends in aviation. This is the impression the whole event creates. Even while he was trying to give Rs5000/- crore relief from Govt either as aviation fuel tax relief or as interest free loan, the pink slips from Jet to employees caused loss of good will in Govt and hence,, bail out became unsaleable to policy makers. Mr Goyal tried to bail out the civil aviation minister by cancelling the pink slips.
Alternative strategy should have effected across the board cut in salaries of top management and down the line, even while retaining the sacked employees.
There is a great story of PR in economic slump. Silicon graphics was about to go under. it got eminent newmen to head its PR dept. Introduced a very transparent online communication bearing all company details. every one took massive salary cuts and no one was sacked. All turn around decisions were put online and employees consulted. Within 3 years the company changed its fortunes.
Mr Malya of KF splurged on Formula One and IP Land rebranding Deccan. Each airline expanded in the same way their egos expanded. Hired mindlessly. Now they cannot complain.
How can ordinary people accept tax exemption on aviation fuel when they are paying for ordinary diesel and petrol a high price? The Govt naturally is averse to cutting such taxes. esp in an election year.

Dear Srinivasan,
A few years back JET AIRWAYS was hailed as a TOP brand in India and won many awards for its excellent service.
It continues to be the favourite domestic airlines for many of us. It can legitimately claim of having a team of charming and well groomed in flight attendents, and courteous and efficient service personnel at all levels.
However, the "BOSS" Mr. Goyal, single handedly demolished the edifice by his inane actions in the past two days.He has scaled new heights of naivete by swearing on his dead mother when he claimed that he was not influenced by any political leader, when he took back the sacked staff of jet airways..(the whole world knows that what pressure was mounted by Praful patel and Raj Thakaray on him...?)
The moral of the story seems to be that it takes one man to destroy the image of an organisation, and when it happens to be your own chairman.. it is done all the more easier..!
